Occupational Therapy Services

As occupational therapists, we work to help develop, improve, or regain physical, motor, sensory, cognitive, and social/emotional skills detailed below that are necessary to perform the tasks that are required in every day life.


Self-Care Skills

Self-care skills include basic activities of daily living (BADLs) such as feeding, dressing, toileting and hygiene, and functional mobility.

Self-care skills also include instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) such as meal preparation, cleaning and housekeeping, management of money and medicine, and telephone use.

Occupational therapists are trained to assist clients learn and master self-care skills in order to increase independence and quality of life.


Fine Motor Skills

Fine motor skills involve the grasp and manipulation of various sized objects, using the hand, wrist, and finger muscles. The development of fine motor skills is important for age-appropriate play and functional activities including the management of fasteners, utensil use, and handwriting.

Occupational therapists incorporate fine motor activities in treatment sessions with a variety of mediums, including Play-Doh, pom-poms, beads, pegs, and more!


Visual Motor Skills

Visual motor skills enable a person to interpret what his/her eyes see and use that information to manipulate objects and/or one’s body during daily tasks. The development of visual motor skills is important for age-appropriate play and functional activities including tracking and reaching for a toy, stacking blocks, stringing beads, cutting/folding paper, and handwriting.

Occupational therapists love to use crafts and games to incorporate visual motor activities in treatment sessions!
